Okay, so it is just a humble opinion:
I think most of us agree that orbs come in different shapes, sizes and
forms; the most commonly posed excuse is dust, followed by bugs, lint, hair,
pollen and finally balls of energy.
The former are generally picked up by DVI technique and confirmed as simply
natural anomalies; the later, is a little harder to explain because an
energy ball is a fusion of light and electricity. The question is, what is
this electricity and light the result of? If the orb has its own
electricity/light source and appears driven by its own intelligent direction
it would generally come under this area of investigation - Normal or
Paranormal? There is no distinct answer to this question because this kind
of orb has been seen generated at both apparent haunted venues as well as
non-apparent venues; in other words, they themselves do not consitute a
confirmed haunting. They do, however, give rise to the understanding that
the world of science is not yet fully cognescant of its origins and some
explanations have been similar to that of ball lightning, again a ball of
energy and light. (See rumoured crop circle video with flying ball
lightning - more recently accepted as a fake)
Some suggest that the orb is a pre-stage apparition whereby the orb
represents the first forming of a spirit and that if enough energy is gained
the fully fledged apparition can sometimes manifest. If this were true then
with the amount of orbs caught on film (through digicam I hasten to add, and
this must be considered a contributory factor) surely someone will have
evidence of this apparent transition yet none have yet come forward with
anything to substantiate this claim.
In summary, orbs are not a significant factor in determining a genuine
haunting, they should not even be considered as even a part unless something
far more substantial is posed with this evidence.
If an orb...ject moves without apparent natural force, contains its own
lightsource and energy field it may just be simply that - a natural energy
field.
And yes, I do believe in ghosts and hauntings having been a victim of
several... even in my own home occasionally!
But I have never seen a genuine orb and thought instantly - ghost!
Dr Jones however insists that "dust motes have fractal characteristics and
any subtle angular
change in light or observational perspective may give them radically
different apparitional aspects.
"Ever work with laser beams? This is a
common phenomena. Various shifts in external stimuli or perspective
even generally give the illusion of movement, even though the mote
itself is completely stationary."
